About Cumulative Budget
Cumulative Budget is a small, independent budgeting app and a library of guides and calculators built around one idea: your money does not reset on the first of the month, so your budget should not either.
Why it exists
Every budgeting tool we tried started each month from zero. That makes for tidy reports and bad decisions: a month where you overspent by 300 simply disappears, and the annual insurance bill that lands in March is averaged into a comfortable monthly figure that never matches your account balance. We wanted the opposite — a running total that carries every surplus and every shortfall forward, and a projection that shows the month things go wrong while there is still time to change it.
Who makes it
Cumulative Budget is built and maintained by an independent software developer based in Switzerland, not by a company with a marketing department. That shapes the product: there is no upsell funnel, the guides are written by the person who writes the code, and feature requests from users genuinely do turn into releases.
What you can use here
- The app for web and Android: income and expense tracking, recurring entries, shared household accounts, goals, and a live future-balance projection.
- Free calculators that run in your browser, with nothing saved or uploaded.
- A growing set of guides on budgeting methods, written in plain language and available in seven languages.
Our editorial approach
The guides explain methods — cumulative budgeting, zero-based budgeting, the 50/30/20 rule, emergency funds — and where each one breaks down. They are general information for a general audience, not personalised financial advice, and they are updated when the advice changes rather than left to rot. Where an article recommends our own app, it says so plainly.
How this site is funded
The app is free to use. The website carries advertising on content pages — guides, calculators and informational pages — to cover hosting and development. Ads never appear inside the app itself, and we do not sell your data; what the site collects and why is set out in the privacy policy.
